Our Beliefs
At Word of Hope Bethesda Pentecostal Fellowship (WBPF Watford), our faith is firmly rooted in the Bible and the foundational truths of the Christian faith. The following statements summarise what we believe and teach.
The Scriptures
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the final authority for faith, belief, and Christian living.
The One True God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is loving, holy, righteous, and sovereign over all creation.
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for the sins of humanity, rose from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will return again in power and glory.
Salvation
We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. Through His death and resurrection, believers receive forgiveness of sins, new life, and reconciliation with God.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the present-day ministry of the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, regenerates believers, and empowers them to live holy lives. We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience following salvation, enabling believers for effective Christian service and witness.
Spiritual Gifts
We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are active today and are given for the edification of the Church and the advancement of God’s Kingdom. These gifts are to be exercised in love, order, and obedience to Scripture.
The Church
We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of all believers. The Church is called to worship God, preach the Gospel, disciple believers, care for one another, and serve the world with compassion and integrity.
Ordinances
We believe in the ordinances of:
-
Water Baptism by immersion, in obedience to Christ’s command
-
The Lord’s Supper, commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
Christian Living
We believe believers are called to live lives that reflect the character of Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit, pursuing holiness, love, humility, and obedience to God’s Word.
The Return of Christ
We believe in the personal, visible return of Jesus Christ and the future resurrection of both the saved and the lost. We believe in the eternal life of believers and the fulfilment of God’s Kingdom according to His promise.
Our Commitment
This Statement of Faith outlines the core biblical beliefs that guide our teaching, worship, and church life. We seek to honour God in all that we believe, teach, and practice.
We desire to remain faithful to God’s Word and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in all that we do.
